Ideal Weight Calculator
Find your scientifically estimated ideal body weight baseline based on the famous Devine Formula.
What is the Ideal Weight Calculator?
An ideal body weight (IBW) calculator allows you to mathematically establish a baseline mass target based on your height and biological gender. Medical professionals have historically utilized several variations of these formulas to determine medication dosages and to establish clinical health markers.
The Devine Formula
We utilize the Dr. B.J. Devine formula (1974), which is widely considered the most prominent clinical standard. The formula calculates a baseline weight for an individual who is precisely 5 feet tall (60 inches) and recursively adds 2.3 kg for every single inch of vertical height above that baseline.
Limitations for Athletes & Bodybuilders
Since the exact density of muscle tissue drastically exceeds the density of adipose tissue (body fat), any generalized mass formula becomes inaccurate for weight-lifters. Like the BMI calculator, the Ideal Body Weight logic is completely blind to muscle mass. A highly muscular, extremely lean bodybuilder will easily surpass their "Ideal Weight" limit while remaining in peak cardiovascular shape. Use this calculator strictly as a generic baseline rather than an absolute rule.
